Ollie’s Boudoir Story: When Was the Last Time You Chose You?
There's a point in motherhood when you realize how much of yourself you've given away. Not all at once. In a thousand small moments.
You've grown and changed and learned how to show up for everyone who needs you. You've become a mother, a partner, a friend, a professional, sometimes all in the same afternoon. Life keeps moving, and you keep showing up.
So when was the last time you showed up for yourself?
Not because someone needed you. Not because it was on your list. Simply because you deserve to feel beautiful, confident, and connected to the woman you are today.
That's the question Ollie carried with her when she walked into my studio on Bay Street in downtown Beaufort. Like so many women I photograph, she wasn't trying to become someone new.
She wanted to look at the woman she already is, after kids and after years of putting everyone else first, and finally see her clearly.
Her boudoir session became the first page of a new chapter.
“Hey, She’s Pretty Hot”: The Desire to See Yourself Differently
When I asked Ollie what she hoped to get from her session, she shared something refreshingly honest:
“I want to look at myself in a better light, I want to see myself and internally think 'hey she's pretty hot' and feel like I can carry myself with even more confidence than I had before having kids.”
There's something powerful about that wish.
It isn't about becoming a different woman. It's about looking at the woman you already are and seeing her with fresh eyes.
Maybe you've looked in the mirror lately and noticed all the ways your body has changed. Maybe you're so used to seeing yourself through the lens of motherhood and work that you rarely pause to appreciate the person looking back at you. And maybe, like Ollie, you're ready to see yourself differently.
You don't have to wait until you lose weight or reach some imaginary version of perfection. Your body has carried you through every season of your life. You're allowed to appreciate it now, not someday.
You can be grateful for what your body has done and still want to feel beautiful in it. Both things can be true.
“Boudoir After Kids: Starting a New Chapter”
Ollie described this season of her life as a time of redefining herself, finding new purpose, and discovering things to look forward to beyond her daily responsibilities. She called it a new chapter.
And sometimes, a new chapter doesn't begin with a dramatic change. Sometimes it begins with a small but meaningful decision to do something just for yourself.
It might be celebrating a milestone birthday, navigating a life transition, or simply deciding you're ready for a new experience. A boudoir session can become a way to mark that moment, not because a photoshoot will magically change everything, but because choosing to be photographed is an invitation to pause, be present, and give yourself permission to take up space.
You are more than your responsibilities. More than the roles you fill. You are still becoming, and that woman deserves to be celebrated, too.
Nervous and Excited? You Don’t Have to Choose One.
Here's something else Ollie shared: she was nervous, but excited.
If you've ever considered boudoir photography, you might recognize that feeling. Part of you is curious. You imagine beautiful photographs and wonder what it would feel like to see yourself that way.
Then the questions start: What if I feel awkward? What if I don't know how to pose? What if I don't like how I look?
Take a breath. You don't have to arrive feeling fearless.
You can be nervous and excited. You can have questions. You can be unsure about what to wear or how to move in front of the camera. You don't need to be a model, and you don't have to pretend to be someone you're not.
In my studio, I guide you through every step, helping you feel comfortable, supported, and fully at ease before we ever begin creating your portraits. I’ll show you exactly how to move, where to place your hands, how to breathe, and how to settle into poses that feel natural for your body.
The goal is not perfection. The goal is presence.
You don’t have to know how to “perform” confidence before you arrive. Sometimes confidence comes because you allowed yourself to try something new, even while your heart was beating a little faster.
A Boudoir Session That Honors Your Comfort Level
One of the most important parts of any boudoir experience is trust.
Your session should never feel rushed, pressured, or performative. It should feel private, respectful, and fully centered on you. Before your session, we’ll talk through your hopes, questions, boundaries, and comfort level so you know exactly what to expect.
That includes everything from wardrobe choices and posing to how your images will be used or shared. Your privacy matters deeply, and your photographs are never shared without your permission.
For many women, especially mothers and women moving through a new season of life, that sense of safety makes all the difference. When you know you are supported, you can relax into the experience. You can stop worrying about whether you’re “doing it right” and start reconnecting with yourself.
At Boudoir by Emily, my approach is rooted in helping women feel seen without feeling exposed. Whether you’re booking because you want to celebrate your body after kids, mark a personal milestone, or simply remember what it feels like to choose yourself, your session is designed to meet you where you are.
Seeing Yourself Clearly Again
Ollie’s session was not about pretending to be someone else.
It was about giving herself the chance to see the woman who had been there all along.
The woman who has carried, nurtured, stretched, changed, grown, and kept showing up. The woman who can be soft and strong. The woman who can be a mother and still be sensual, confident, playful, powerful, and completely herself.
That is one of the reasons I love photographing women in this season of life. Boudoir after kids is not about “getting your body back.” Your body never left you. It has been with you through every sleepless night, every ordinary Tuesday, every transition, every becoming.
This experience is about seeing yourself with more compassion. More honesty. More appreciation.
It is about remembering that confidence does not belong only to one version of you.
Why Client Stories Matter
Every woman comes into the studio with her own story.
Some are celebrating a birthday or anniversary. Some are rebuilding after heartbreak. Some are stepping into a new decade. Some are simply tired of waiting for permission to feel beautiful.
Ollie’s story matters because it is so familiar. It speaks to the woman who has spent years giving her energy outward and is finally ready to turn some of that care back toward herself.
It also connects to a larger part of my work, including The RAW Project, where women are invited to show up honestly, vulnerably, and without apology. Whether through boudoir, fine art portraiture, or personal storytelling, I believe being seen can be a powerful act of reclamation.
Not because a photograph defines you.
But because sometimes a photograph helps you recognize yourself again.
What If This Is Your New Chapter?
If you’ve been wondering whether a boudoir session is for you, you don’t need to have the perfect reason.
You don’t have to wait until your body changes. You don’t have to wait until your life feels less busy. You don’t have to wait until you feel completely confident.
You can begin exactly where you are.
Maybe, like Ollie, you’re ready to look at yourself in a better light. Maybe you want to feel more connected to your body after having children. Maybe you’re standing at the edge of a new chapter and want to mark it with something meaningful.
Whatever brought you here, I want you to know this: you are allowed to choose yourself.
You are allowed to be photographed beautifully.
You are allowed to see yourself clearly.
And you are allowed to think, even quietly at first, hey, she’s pretty hot.
If you’re ready to begin your own boudoir experience in Beaufort, SC, I’d love to help you plan a session that feels personal, comfortable, and true to you.
With so much love,
Emily Scott
